It is a permanent fixture, so you cannot open and close it as easily as you could a normal gas cap. One of the worst parts about this hidden tank is that it makes it difficult for you to access your gas. This means that you would have to pay for a new nozzle again if your dealership is unable or unwilling to fix it themselves. While some Jeep dealerships will have the capability to fix this part, some may not be able to and will require that they order it from Chrysler. What could go wrong? Well, once again you are relying on a defective part. So let’s say that you do go to the dealership, they replace the fuel nozzle and you drive away with a full tank of gas. Not only does it require that you drive your car over to the dealer, but the technicians at most dealerships will not be able to use cash as payment and must rely on credit cards. While this isn’t really a problem for car owners with good credit, for those without it it can be a real hassle. If you are not able to get the nozzle out of your tank, you will have to have it replaced by a dealership before you can fill it up again. You would have to take your vehicle over to a Jeep or Chrysler dealership and pay them a $100+ diagnostic charge just to get the fuel nozzle out of your tank which could be just a few ounces shy of $10,000 in gas. Once your tank is full, the nozzle becomes stuck inside of it and there is no external way to get it out. Gas Nozzle Gets Stuckīut what happens if you don’t have the key fob with you? That’s where you will run into another problem. Not only are they expensive, but they are hard to find and can only be obtained if you have the VIN number for both the car and the key fob. This means that if you were to lose your cap, you would be forced to purchase one directly from the manufacturer. The cap that comes with this vehicle is an auto-locking system which means that you cannot use your typical replacement gas caps. A Bad Fuel Pump Is An Instant IssueĪnd unlike most vehicles that use a gas cap, Jeep decided to make its own. This can cause a clog in the line or cause a leak which could eventually lead to a complete failure of your vehicle’s fuel pump. What was the biggest problem with this new system? Well, for one thing, as soon as you fill-up the tank and close it, all of the dirt that collects around it would be sucked into the fuel system.
